Clan Scout D3O WP Riding Shoes Review: Look Good And Are Practical Too

For a price tag of Rs 7,999, they are affordable too for the protection they offer

Riding gear is one of the most essential components for keeping one safe while riding a motorcycle. Most of us ride motorcycles on a daily basis. So, wearing full-fledged, bulky gear (which is more suitable for long distance touring) to the office every day can be a bit bothersome for some people. So, Clan Shoes has just launched the Scout D3O WP riding shoes which look like everyday sneakers but promise to offer protection like normal riding gear. Interestingly, these are the first Indian made riding shoes with D3O protection.

Apart from looking like everyday sneakers, they feel like them as well, to a degree. The shoes have been designed in a way that they engulf your feet and ankles really well but also provide a bit of breathing room so that you can stretch your toes from time to time. Also, the material on the outside does feel stiff enough to give you the confidence that your feet will be protected in case of a crash and it is soft enough on the inside to give you enough flexibility so that your feet don’t feel stiff after wearing them for a few hours. Usually, I wear size 10 shoes and these ones fit me perfectly. 

The shoes are available in four different colours and I particularly like these silver ones as they have a bit of subtlety about them. I also like how the different accents and their patterns are well integrated with the rest of the design and do not stick out much. The overall design will go well with your everyday attire. If you are a newbie to riding shoes and are mostly used to wearing regular sneakers, then you might find these a bit heavy at first, which is an obvious reaction because of the added weight of the protectors. But, give it a few days to break into the shoes and once you get used to wearing them, you’ll find them pretty comfortable. 

These Scout D3O WP shoes are claimed to be waterproof by Clan and while I didn’t get a chance to test them properly as the monsoons are over now, water didn’t slip in at all at certain times when I accidentally stepped on a puddle or spilled some water over them. When we reviewed the SKNR waterproof riding shoes a couple of months back, we did find them capable of keeping your feet dry while riding in the rain on an everyday basis. So, in that sense, I’m feeling confident that these ones should be able to handle the job as well. 

The highlight of these shoes is that they offer D3O ankle protection. The D3O material is used in gear worn by athletes participating in extreme sports, motorcycle racing, four-wheeled racing and other disciplines. The material hardens on impact during crashes to absorb and distribute the energy so that the forces are not felt by the foot, keeping it protected in the process, but otherwise is flexible enough to not be a pain while walking The shoes also offer thermoformed heel and toe protection. It has high visibility reflectors on the heel and the whole heel section’s design is pretty cohesive. 

These Clan Scout D3O WP riding shoes are practical and comfortable for everyday use. Given the D3O protection and the other protection around the heel and toe, should offer enough protection for some short weekend trips as well. They are priced at Rs 7,999 and at the time of writing this review, the shoes are available for a discounted price tag of Rs 5,499. So, in this price range, the Clan Scout shoes will be a good addition to your gear collection.
