Honda Activa 6G vs Activa Electric

Honda has been dominating not just the Indian scooter market but the entire Indian two-wheeler segment, with the Activa. Now, the manufacturer has unveiled an Activa electric. With the launch of Activa electric set to happen in January 2025, Honda now aims to dominate the electric scooter sales. We compare the petrol-powered Activa with the electric Activa to find out how different they are from each other.

Design

The Honda Activa 6G is a family focused scooter which comes with the same old design, being clearly identifiable to almost every other Indian. On the other hand, the Honda Activa e: comes with a very different, futuristic and minimalist design.

Engine/Motor

The Activa 6G is equipped with a 109.51cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 7.79PS and 8.90Nm. It delivers a real world mileage of 59.9kmpl in the city and 55.93kmpl on the highway, as per our tests, from its 5.3-litre fuel tank. This translates to a range of more than 300km on a single tank.

The Honda Activa electric scooter comes with a mid-mounted electric motor that produces 6kW and 22Nm. It gets two swappable 1.5kWh batteries positioned under the seat , which deliver a combined claimed range of 102km on a single charge. However, charging the electric Activa will also take more or less the same time as fueling up the Activa 6G, as you just have to swap batteries.

Features

Honda Activa 6G gets an analogue instrument cluster showing speedometer, odometer, fuel levels and other basic tell-tale lights. It comes with a silent starter, an engine kill switch, a pass switch, an external fuel cap and an optional LED headlight. The H-Smart variant brings in advanced features like unlocking the scooter’s handle, seat and fuel lid using the fob key. It also allows you to locate the scooter with a simple press of a button, making it flash both of its indicators.

The Activa Electric comes in two variants. The standard variant gets a 5-inch TFT console without connectivity features. Whereas, the Honda RoadSync Duo has a 7-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity for navigation, call and music control, live tracking, and OTA (over-the-air) updates. It also has all LED lighting, charging port and has a fob key as well. The Activa e: also features three ride modes: Econ, Standard, and Sport along with a reverse mode.

Underpinnings

The Honda Activa 6G has a telescopic fork and a single rear shock absorber. The scooter gets drum brakes on both ends. It rides on 12-inch front and 10-inch rear wheels, with 90-section tyres on both ends. The scooter has a 162mm ground clearance and a kerb weight of 105kg - 106kg depending on the variant.

The Activa Electric is equipped with a telescopic fork and a 3-step adjustable monoshock. It uses a front disc brake and a drum brake at the rear, with CBS (combined braking system). The electric scooter rides on 12-inch alloys, wrapped with 90-section front and 110-section rear tyres.
