The US-based two-wheeler manufacturer will soon set up 10 authorised dealerships across the country
US-based two-wheeler manufacturer Cleveland CycleWerks has confirmed that it will roll out the Ace Deluxe and Misfit, which were showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, next week. The company has also stated that it will target major cities in India with 10 dealerships - one each in Mumbai, Pune, Indore, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kochi,Trivandrum, Hosur, Salem and Coimbatore. The first showroom, which is set to be inaugurated on September 20, will be set up in Vashi, Mumbai. The company says it will expand to 30 more cities, which will be finalised by 2019.
The Cleveland CycleWerks Ace Deluxe and Misfit are powered by a 229cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder motor that develops 15.4PS of power at 7000rpm and 16Nm of torque at 6000rpm. Although that doesn’t seem like a lot, especially when compared to its competition, only a thorough road test will reveal the motor’s true character.
While the bikes are manufactured in China and exported to 30 countries via the CBU (completely built unit) route, the company seems to have different plans for India. Yes, the company will import both the Ace and the Misfit via the CKD (completely knocked down) route, with final assembly taking place at its plant in Pune. To keep costs in check, the company will also resort to localising around 6-7 per cent of the bikes parts, including tyres, headlights, wire assembly and fluids.
According to the company’s future strategy, the firm has plans of introducing at least two models every year along with different engine variations for the Ace and Misfit. While the pricing of the two motorcycles will be revealed sometime next week, we expect them to be priced between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh. When launched the Ace Deluxe and Misfit will compete against the UM Renegade Duty S, Duty Ace and the Renegade Commando 150.
