The American motorcycle manufacturer has officially announced its plan to launchmotorcycles in India by September 2017
India is a very fast growing and varied market for vehicles, be it two wheelers or four. In the last year, close to 18 million two-wheelers were sold in the country, making India the largest market for two-wheelers in the world. It is no surprise that a lot of foreign brands are getting attracted towards the Indian market, considering the scope our market provides for two-wheelers, especially small-capacity motorcycles. BMW Motorrad, a big motorcycle company globally, also recently inaugurated four showrooms in the country with almost a dozen motorcycles on offer.
Another foreign firm, 9 years-old Cleveland CycleWerks, known for manufacturing classic, modern and custom motorcycles recently announced its intentions of entering the country. Cleveland CycleWerks is a small motorcycle company which was set up by three people, namely Scott Colosimo, Jarrod Streng and Curtis Ray in 2009 and is based out of Cleveland, Ohio, USA. Given the time the company has been in existence for, it has got a good number of motorcycles on offer. It sells motorcycles in 25 countries across the globe and offers bikes in three different categories – classic, modern and custom.
The classic motorcycles offered by the company include Heist/Iron One, Misfit Gen II and Ace. The Ace is offered in four different models – Ace Deluxe, Ace Standard, Ace Café and Ace Scrambler. The modern class has two vehicles on offer - the FXx/FXR and the Hooligun, which is offered with 250cc and 450cc engine and are known as Hooligun X and Hooligun respectively.
Most of the cycle parts and other parts of CCW motorcycles are currently sourced from China. The engine displacement of CCW motorcycles ranges from 150cc to 450cc and share underpinnings with previous Honda engines. CCW will assemble and sell motorcycles in India in collaboration with Laish-Madison MotorWerks, a Hyderabad-based company. LMMW plans to assemble CCW bikes in India and the plant will most probably be set up in Telangana state itself.
The CCW motorcycles are a notch different than other offerings in the motorcycle market which might work in its favor as far as desirability and appeal are concerned. Considering the fact that the company also has bikes under 500cc in its portfolio, it could appeal to a huge market, provided CCW prices the bikes attractively.
Watch out this space for the launch of CCW motorcycles.
