EV-Expo 2015

India's first international electric vehicle auto show, EV-Expo is scheduled to take place from December 24 to 27 at Pragati Maidan in Delhi. This event will be inaugurated by Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways and will showcase the latest technological advancements in the field of the environment-friendly vehicles and components. The show is expected to feature more than 100 EV manufacturers across the globe, including over 22 Chinese EV makers. The auto show is coming at a right time as the Indian capital is working on reducing pollution levels in the city. The Delhi government has decided to implement Odd-Even rule for cars and has also banned the registration of cars having an engine displacement of 2,000cc or more for a period of three months, starting from January 2016. Keeping in mind these bans, electric vehicles can prove to be quite handy in the situation.

Mr. Rajiv Arora, Founder Member, Electric Rickshaw Manufacturers Association and Organizer EV-Expo, said, “This first EV-Expo 2015 holds special significance particularly because this Expo is the first ever concerted effort put together after the passing of Motor Vehicles (Amendment Bill, 2015) bringing E-Carts & E-Rickshaws under the ambit of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 specially at a time when the government is all out to promote E-Rickshaws and E-Carts to provide End mile connectivity and ‘environment friendly’ transport solutions in order to boost passenger safety, convenience and in making India a pollution free country.” He added, “Equally important is the fact that the Expo is in line with government’s objective to convert 10% of 2/3/4 wheeler vehicles plying on the Indian roads into Hybrid/ E-Vehicles which makes E-Rickshaws and E-Carts hold special significance in creating a pollution-free environment.”

Mr. Anuj Sharma, Chairman, E-Rickshaw Committee, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, said, “EVEXPO-2015 promises to be a significant platform to create an imp ecosystem, explore and understand the technical, policy, market opportunities and challenges for the exhibitors, buyers, global leaders, opinion makers, Govt(s), media and raise awareness about green transportation, electric vehicles, battery rickshaws, E-carts, batteries, motors, components and accessories etc.”
