A retro bike in a vintage garb
The Yamaha RX 100 is a timeless classic, and if you can revive one to ship-shape, the simple two-stroker will leave you smiling from ear to ear every time. Yogi from YC Design is back with yet another spotless restoration where he has revived, modified and finished an RX100 to look absolutely stunning in this Kenny Roberts Yamaha MotoGP bike theme.
So, let’s have a quick glance at the modifications that have gone into this humble two-stroker.
The first thing to stand out on this RX100 is the famous Yamaha ‘Speed Block’ GP bike design made popular by GP racer Kenny Roberts. His GP bike too was a two-stroke 500cc Yamaha. Yogi has also given the RX100 a white LED headlight for everyday practicality.
That said, a major chunk of the work on this RX100 is under the skin. It now gets a taller front fork and is mated with twin rear shocks borrowed from TVS. This has led the seat height to go up from 765mm to 815mm. The next critical update is a front disc brake assembly which too has been sourced from a TVS Apache. To better the braking feel, the RX100 also gets a steel-braided brake line.
Final changes include fresh stainless steel wire-spoke rims, SS Allen head bolts all around the motorcycle and aluminium footpegs borrowed from the Yamaha FZ16 to tie it all up together.
Getting an RX100 today for a decent price is possible, but getting one up and running with a vision in mind is more challenging. Owning one is like owning a pair of good leather shoes. The more you care for it, the better it looks and remains that way for longer.
