The nation’s capital has added another feather to its cap recently after getting the Bike on rent facility officially approved. The initiative was done in order to enhance tourism in the region and give better convenience to the tourists who come to visit the city in large numbers every year. The proposal to start this facility was sent by the Tourism department to provide last mile connectivity to tourists. However, the proposal for bike taxi was sent earlier, which was declined keeping in mind the safety of the pillion rider.
Delhi transport department announced a protocol to rent motorcycles. Licenses will be issued for each motorcycle that can further be given on rent to the respective tourists and individuals. Commenting on the scheme, the officials said, "These will be commercially registered and given contract carriage permit. Licensee should have minimum of five motorcycles with office space of 150 square feet."
A similar facility is also available in Goa where a tourist can rent a motorbike by paying a fixed amount for a single day. As per plans, the motorcycles for rent will be available at important public junctures like metro stations, Inter State Bus Terminuses (ISBTs) and other major places in the city. The one who wish to take the bike on rent simply has to submit his identity at the counter after which the bike would be issued on rent. The scheme has been finalised and will be implemented by the end of this month.
