EICMA 2015: Piaggio Unveils Electric Motor Aided Wi-Bike

The well-known Italian company, Piaggio has showcased their next venture “Wi-Bike”, at EICMA 2015 in Milan. This electric powered bicycle is designed as an ideal vehicle for daily commuting. Wi-bike comes in two types ‘comfort’ and ‘active’, which are designed for different riding style. Both come with a central electric motor, transmission, and battery that finds its place behind the seat tube. It has aluminum frame layout that offers ideal stability and handling. The bicycle is powered by a Piaggio electric motor and can reach a top speed of 25km/h. The motor has three assistance modes, city, hill, and standard, for delivering power and rider can choose one according to his requirement. ,. Furthermore, the motor gets its power from a lithium-ion battery that has a life of 120 km in eco-mode, and also offers the charging slot for smartphones through a USB port fitted on the handlebar.

The electric bicycle features an integrated GPS anti-theft system that prevents it from being stolen and the owner can easily monitor it at any time. The company connected the display, battery and motor with a special code so if they are detached from the bike it won’t work at all. Besides this, the bike owner will be notified directly through a text message in the case the bike gets stolen.

When the Piaggio ‘Wi-bike’ is connected to a smartphone it assembles all the information about the route and statistics for each trip in the downloadable app. Further, it also features a social media aspect where riders can easily share results, routes and fitness targets with anyone.
