Italian electric bikemaker Energica is working on its plans to enter Asian markets. It currently caters to Europe and America but intends to target two-wheeler-centric countries such as Thailand, Vietnam and Japan followed by India and China. While the plan isn’t written in stone just yet, it will try to step foot in our country by the end of 2020 or the beginning of 2021.
The company has three bikes under its umbrella: Eva Ribelle, Ego and Eva EsseEsse9. These are further categorised under Streetfighter and Race Replica and sold in Europe, US, Japan, South Africa and Hong Kong. Energica is interested in tapping into the Indian market, given its plans of going completely electric by 2030. That said, considering its performance character, the brand is unlikely to build its bikes in India. In fact, it would be brought down as CBUs (Completely Built Units) and positioned as premium lifestyle products, much like Ducati or MV Agusta.
To put things into perspective, the Energica Ego+ makes 107kW (147PS) and has a top speed of 240 kmph. It can deliver 400km on a single charge. The bike’s base variant is priced at $22,565 (about Rs 16 lakh). That’s comparable to the Ducati 959 Panigale and the Kawasaki Z1000 -- both in terms of price and performance.
Energica Motorcycles is based in Modena, Italy. It supplies all 18 race bikes for the 11 teams participating in the FIM MotoE World Cup, who started their inaugural season in 2019-20 November.
