The iconic ‘RX’ moniker with a bigger engine sounds….exciting!
Yamaha has produced stellar motorcycles for years. Amongst which the RX100 certainly has been one of the most captivating bikes for Indian audiences. It was the people’s champion when it comes to 2-stroke pocket rockets. The legendary motorcycle is all set to make a comeback, something that Yamaha India’s chairman Eishin Chihana confirmed a couple of months ago.
Talking more about it in an exclusive interview with us, he further touched down on the topic, revealing that they intend to introduce the ‘RX’ name with a ‘bigger’ internal combustion engine. That might just be the way to reincarnate the original flavour in a modern package. For perspective, the ‘OG’ RX100 sported a 98.2cc engine that made 11PS and 10.39Nm, and not to forget it was light and fast.

Check Out Yamaha R15 V4’s Price
Out of the brand’s current lineup for India, we feel that the R15 V4’s iconic liquid-cooled 155cc engine would be the most appropriate motor to carry forward the RX100’s iconic legacy. The 149cc and 249cc FZ motors are fairly commuter-oriented and not as heart-throbbing to bear the RX name, something that Yamaha India was rudely made aware of after the Saluto RX debacle.
With its launch slated to take place sometime after 2026, the world could very well have moved onto electric bikes and scooters by then. So if Yamaha wants to make an impact with it, a performance-packed, bigger RX100 is the way to go.
