With FAME 2 subsidy rumoured to be phased out, Tork seems to be preparing to cater to the affordable electric bike and electric scooter segment
A new electric bike and electric scooter have both been spotted testing. It’s clear that they’re from Tork, as not only do both of them have the same camouflage pattern, but the Tork logo is clearly visible on the test rider’s backpack and helmet.
The Tork electric scooter seems to be a family-oriented one. This is evident by the long seat with ample space for the pillion. The front of the seat profile also seems to be wide, judging by how the rider is tip-toeing. There’s adequate space between the seat and the rear body panels, possibly for a chunky pillion grab rail. The tailight is LED with segments for the indicators. The long rear fender with an integrated licence plate holder should help in keep the muck away.
It also appears to have a hub motor, which should keep the costs in check. Affordability will be a crucial factor as Tork will have to develop the electric scooter keeping in mind that FAME 2 subsidy will likely be phased out soon. It also gets dual rear shock absorbers, along with swingarm covers at either ends. The horn button on the left switchgear also seems to be built to a cost. The centre stand lever appears to be extra long, but expect the final production version to have a more subtle design. Since it’s been spotted for the first time, the production scooter is still some time away. We could get a first look at the production version by the end of 2024.
As for the spied Tork electric bike, it comes with a belt driven motor, and will be a more affordable commuter-oriented EV, as hinted by Tork CEO Kapil Shelke earlier this year. He stated that Tork is working on three electric bikes at three different price points, based on the Tork Kratos platform. With the Tork Kratos R Urban Trim already in the market, expect the upcoming Tork electric bike to be even more affordable than the Urban Trim, which retails at Rs 1,67,499 (ex-showroom). It could be launched in early 2024, and will go up against the Revolt RV400, which is one of the most popular affordable electric bikes in India.
