Our letter to Kayos, weighing in on a classic bike that will now be passed down from father to son…

Dear Kayos,

First and foremost, congratulations on getting your first bike. Hope your dad, Viraf Kapradewala’s, cherished Yamaha RX100 makes for a good friend for you too. Turning 18 is always fun, and even more so with the keys to a motorcycle in your pocket. Your daily commutes across Mumbai will now feel a whole lot better.

Back in 1988 when your dad brought this bike home, its simple 98cc two-stroke engine not only made it a great commuter but also a part time hooligan, its 11PS and 10.39Nm output waging war against the commuter mentality of the day in favour of thrill. Famously known for its signature 'ring-ding-ding' soundtrack, this lightweight and nimble bike is a guaranteed head turner.

Thirty four years later, thanks to Yogi from YC Design, your motorcycle looks as fresh as it did the day your dad brought it home from the showroom. His restoration of classics and vintage bikes has been exemplary. The cherry red and chrome look is so darn sweet!

I remember my dad had this digital Casio wrist watch, a gift given to him by his uncle on joining college. It was his first watch which he later passed on to me in the 11th grade. I remember how special it felt around my wrist, it helped me stay connected to him, no matter where I went.

I wish many great and safe rides for you in the future, and no matter how far you travel, a piece of your dad will always be with you!

Regards,
Ishan & Team BikeDekho
