It is a low-speed product, capable of reaching 25kmph on pure electric propulsion
Meet Felidae, a new market player in the Indian electric space that will be catering to the e-bike segment. It has launched an e-bike, called the Maven, which at Rs 24,500 is one of the most affordable options yet in the country.

Like most e-bikes, the Felidae Maven too is a low-speed electric offering, its top speed capped off at 25kmph. It also offers five levels of pedal assist, courtesy a 250W/32Nm BLDC hub motor. On pure electric propulsion, its 36V, 7.8Ah Li battery is good to go for 35-50km, and a full charge takes three and a half hours.
Thanks to the use of a chromoly steel frame and 27.5-inch aluminium wire spoke rims, the Maven tips the scales at just 21 kilos, making it one of the lightest e-bikes in the country. This figure becomes even more impressive when you consider that it has wire-operated disc brakes at both ends and a telescopic fork. Felidae has tried to save on costs by offering it as a single-speed option and not with a gear-train.
The biggest challenge the Felidae Maven or any other e-bike faces is acceptance. Whether buyers will try to save up on money for e-bikes or spend that much extra and get an electric scooter instead to do their low range daily commuting remains to be seen. What is not a dispute though is the health benefits that an e-bike offers.
