Good news for women drivers in Madhya Pradesh! The state government there has announced that it will be issuing them a driving license for free. This scheme will be implemented from the new fiscal, 2016-17. The policy has already been implemented in Indore from January 5, 2016. This announcement was made by Dr. Shailendra Kumar Shrivastava, Transport Commissioner, Madhya Pradesh, last Thursday when he took part in a drive against the violators of Motor Vehicle Act (MVA) held at Indore. Shrivastava further added that the orders to implement this rule have been issued to all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) of the state. The license will be made free for the first attempt only, and regular fee (Rs. 400) will be charged for subsequent attempts.
This step is taken by Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh, to prioritize women empowerment in the state. The process of applying for the license will remain unchanged for regular applications. For online application, no fee will be demanded for both learning and permanent license as soon as you select the gender as Female. Smart Chip Company, a software developer which handles RTO work, is working on a new software for the same.
RTO, Indore has initiated a drive to collect more fines to meet its revenue target. Mr. MP Singh, Regional Transport Officer, Indore, said that they seized 125 vehicles last Thursday at various places across the city. The majority of vehicles did not have registered documents and many heavy vehicles were not having fitness permit. “Out of 125 vehicles, 40 were SUVs without registration documents and 30 SUVs were registered in other states,” he said. The RTO has collected a sum of Rs. 1.75 crore from this drive.
