With an aim to improve safety on the roads, the Odisha police would be introducing “No Helmet” “No Petrol” Rule in Cuttack urban police district this New Year onwards. The initiative taken by the government will help to create safety awareness and forces the riders to put headgear while riding the bike. Earlier in Bargarh and Sambalpur, districts of Odisha, the police have already started this concept from 1st September 2015.
Before imposing the rule, the city police started a month-long awareness program to enlighten the city people regarding the importance of this campaign.
Along with these efforts, the senior police said that they are educating the petrol pump employees not to provide petrol to the riders, who are not wearing helmets and is thinking of conducting a meeting with petrol pump owners and dealers for the proper execution of the safety rules.

From 10th May, 45,000 bike riders have been fined across Bhopal itself for violating this rule. The administration of Noida and Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh has also declared similar drives, but all gone in vain.
In India, this kind of road safety initiatives is highly required to ensure road safety for the commuters. The government has to implement such drives because India is one of those countries which suffer from the highest rates in the motorcycle injuries and deaths.
Along with enforcing the headgear rule, the police should also take serious actions against the riders, who are not following road rules such as more than one pillion rider, drunk riders and drivers and not wearing helmets. The bike riders will also be asked to carry the vehicle's registration documents while riding their motorcycles or bikes.
