Fluctuations in the currency market has made the Rupee weaker against the US Dollar. This has caused fuel prices in the country to shoot up effective from midnight. In Delhi, a liter of petrol and diesel will now cost Rs. 59.68 and Rs. 48.33 respectively. This is the first major hike in the prices of petrol after seven consecutive price cuts. Earlier, the prices of petrol were slashed by Rs. 3.02 per litre on 29th February.
Regarding this, Indian Oil Corporation said in an official statement, “The current level of international product prices of petrol and diesel and the Rupee-US dollar exchange rate warrant an increase in the price of petrol and diesel, the impact of which is being passed on to the consumers with this price revision.”
“The movement of prices in international oil market and rupee-dollar exchange rate shall continue to be closely monitored and developing trends of the market will be reflected in future price changes,” the statement added.”
