Ahmedabad-based startup Greenvolt Mobility has launched its Mantis electric bike at Rs 35,000. Its features include an LED headlamp, digital instrument console, and front and rear disc brakes.

Greenvolt claims the Mantis can carry a payload of 100kg and despite the exposed frame, all electrical components such as the battery, motor and controller are waterproof. The motor and controller come with a lifetime warranty while the lithium-ion battery pack gets a warranty of two years.

The Mantis gets a 250-watt electric motor, which gives the e-bike a claimed top speed of 25kmph. Due to the low power output and speed, you do not need a licence to ride the Mantis. It does not even have to be registered. Another highlight is the lightweight lithium-ion battery pack, which is removable and can be taken home for charging. The battery pack needs a charge time of 2.5 hours and offers a range of up to 50km. According to Greenvolt, a single charge would cost around Rs 5 (depending on electricity charges in the location).

The Greenvolt Mantis makes sense as a low-cost daily runabout if your travelling distance is less than 45km. While top speed is low, Greenvolt is working on high-powered electric bikes with higher top speed and range. The Mantis is available only in Ahmedabad for now though Greenvolt will expand its operations to other cities in the future. Stay tuned for updates.
