Harley Davidson is on the move and is employing every possible move to exploit the Indian market. Until the legendary motorcycling manufacturers by the name of Triumph motorcycles show up, Harley Davidson will hold the edge in terms of being the only company in the country to offers their kind of product. There are number of Japanese companies in the department, but no one can argue the aura that a Harley brings with it, which cannot be matched. The cheapest Bike of the company, SuperLow, which evidently has nothing superlow about its price, is available for Rs.7 lakh which is 1.5 lacs higher than its current pricing. The company has also made it very clear that assembling more Harley Davidson bikes in the country is a real possibility. Harley Davidson has a Haryana facility in Bawal.
This also means that India has achieved a unique feat as it is only the second Harley Davidson manufacturing plant after Brazil to be situated outside the United States. This proves the significance of the Indian market in the eyes of foreign automobile manufacturing giants with Triumph motorcycles all set to enter the Indian market in the near future. Currently, there are 15 models that Harley Davidson garners in India and from those 15 models, 5 have been assembled in the Bawal Plant in Haryana.
Mr Anoop Prakash who happens to be the Managing Director of Harley Davidson India said that the company has no problems in assembling more models at the Bawal Plant but that would solely depend on the demands of the customers for a particular model. There are many advantages of assembling the bikes in the country itself as would reduce the overall cost of the bike and make it more affordable and a similar strategy was adopted for their cheapest bike SuperLow. The company has till now sold 1000 units since its arrival in the year 2009.
