Zongshen RT 2 Launch

The arrival of the Honda ADV350 marked the turning point for the global scooter scene, taking them from just being urban runabouts to machines with a little more ability to handle things when the tarmac ends. Now, in a bid to exploit this segment, Chinese manufacturer Zongshen recently released the 2022 iteration of the Cyclone RT2 ADV scooter in China.

Zongshen RT 2 Design

In terms of design, a small beak up front gives it a rugged look, completing the ADV touch. But with its utility and convenience, it’s still a maxi-scooter at heart. Under the skin is a double cradle frame with a telescopic fork at the front along with twin coil springs at the rear.

At the Cyclone RT2’s heart is a 250cc, 4-valve, liquid-cooled engine, churning out 17.23PS and 22.5Nm. This puts it 1.67PS below but 0.5Nm above its Indian rival, the Keeway Vieste 300 and  below the Honda ADV350.

The braking system is handled by single discs at the front and rear with dual-channel ABS. The 2022 Zongshen Cyclone RT2 comes shod with a 14-inch front and 13-inch rear wheel with alloy rims with tubeless dual-purpose tyres, which should give the RT2 sufficient off-road credentials.

On the features front, the Cyclone RT2 gets a full LED lighting system, a 5.6-inch TFT instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity, a USB charging port and a manually adjustable windscreen. A seat height of 780mm makes it accessible enough for shorter riders. Zongshen is offering the Cyclone RT2 in five colours: Bright Green, Rock Grey, Snow White, Tungsten STeel Matte Grey and Night Black.

At a price of 20,800 Yuan, which is approximately Rs 2,42,785, it is quite an expensive scooter. That said, it’s unlikely to make its way to the Indian shores.

Unfortunately, there are no ADV scooters in India. But if you’re looking for a maxi-styled scooter, you can have a look at the Suzuki Burgman Street, Aprilia SXR 125, SXR 160 and the Yamaha Aerox 155. In a related development, The Honda ADV150 got a JDM special edition last year. You can read more about it here.
