Hero and Bajaj in competition for premium bike segment

India's two leading two wheeler manufacturer Hero Honda and Bajaj Auto are in competition for premium bike segment. Both the companies seek to beat each other in this most popular premium bike segment. Since a long Bajaj Auto is getting good response from its over 150 bikes like Bajaj Pulsar 150, Bajaj Pulsar 180 and Bajaj Pulsar 220 against Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme, Hero Honda Hunk and Hero Honda Karizma.

 

 


 

As all known that Hero Honda has been separated between Hero and Honda. Now Hero seeks to push its premium bikes against Bajaj bikes. So now both the companies are in the competition to get good market share in this most popular segment.



As per Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) since a long time Hero Honda is loosing its over all market share like 54 per cent in April-February 2011, 59 per cent in fiscal 2010 and 75 per cent in financial year 2009. While Hero Honda's premium segment has fallen to 13 per cent in the period of April-February of FY11 from 29 per cent in fiscal 2010 and 34 per cent in financial year 2009. And market share of Hero Honda's mid segment declined by 71 per cent in April-February fiscal 2011 from 75 per cent in financial year 2010.



To get top position in Indian two wheeler market Hero is going set up an special dealer zones for different two-wheeler categories, offering premium facilities for mass market bikes, revamping research and development and creating different marketing verticals. With it the company is also interested to start a used bikes business in India which is will be first time in the Indian two wheeler market history.

 


On the other hand Bajaj Auto is also planing to achieve number one position in Indian two wheeler market and special focusing on rural and township areas, appointed 135 dealers. The company is providing special finance scheme for rural area leaving customers. And as per SIAM report Bajaj bikes are getting better growth against Hero Honda bikes. Now Bajaj Auto is planing to the next generation Bajaj Pulsar which is designed by ex-BMW design head Edgar Heinrich. This new Pulsar will create a new hype in Indian premium bike segment.
