Hero Motorcorp Lead runs on lithium-ion batteries plus an 8kW electric traction motor. The scooter has a range extendor-anon-board generator set, which helps the scooter run for some extra miles. Also loaded with a refined 124cc engine, this scooter is more fuel economic. Three options are there to run this machine, one is the battery that can be charged with any power outlet, the other is the 3 liter fuel tank capacity and the last one, the range extender, which can be an advantage for the rider. Its battery is four times powerful than a normal battery, while its fuel tank gets filled faster its size being just 3L.

The heart of Hero Motocorp Lead is the Permanent magnet AC (PMAC) traction motor that produces a maximum torque of 60 Nm. The automatic drive is designed with a high-technology, which improves and adds to the life of the Lead. The scooter avails a top speed of 100kmph, which is possible along with the range extender. The low sound of the scooter is much mesmerizing than the other scooters running on petrol. This scooter is quite powerful, so to give the rider a safe ride, they have used a Brembo two-piston 240 mm disc brake applied at the front wheel.
