Hero MotoCorp and HMSI shine at the Sales Charts of May 2012

Finally the two wheeler industry of India has registered a double digit growth in financial year 2012-13 all credits to Hero Motocorp and HMSI. 1.36 million units were sold in May 2012 compared to 1.22 million units in May last year. Cumulative sales of April to May were 2.7 million, 0.26 million more than last year resulting a growth of 10.57%. Detailed report is given below: India’s numero uno two wheeler brand, Hero MotoCorp, has posted a decent growth of 11.28% percent in May 2012 compared to May 2011. Hero Motocorp has registered a sale of 5,56,664 units in May 2012 compared to 5,00,234 units of two-wheelers which were sold in May 2011. Talking in terms of month to month sale the sale has risen by 0.92%. In the month of April company sold 5,51,557 units which was the highest sale record in a month by Hero Motocorp until the sale of May which is the new record. Cumulative sales of April to May resulted in a growth of 8.93%. The company has high aims of bringing out 7 million new Hero products out on roads.

Sitting safe on the second spot, Bajaj Auto came across a 1.24% growth in May 2012 compared to the same period in 2011. The company recorded a sale of 3,21,922 units in May 2012, nearly 4,000 units more than May last year. Bajaj Auto was able to sell 3,42,324 units in April 2012. Cumulative sales of April to May 2012 were 3.75% higher than April-May last year. The target set to achieve is 4.5 million.

India’s largest scooter manufacturer HMSI reported a huge 52.02% growth in May 2012 and emerges as the biggest winner. Honda sold 2,21,540 units in May 2012 compared to 1,45,729 in May last year. On month to month basis the sale has gone up by 11.42%. Motorcycle section has registered a growth of 37.44% while scooter section has registered a growth of a high 65.31%. Cumulative sales of April-May have reported a growth of 48.88%.

TVS Motors was among the losers and have posted a decline in sales by 4.84%. Total sales stand at 1,76,012 units this year compared to 1,85,930 units last year. On month to month basis company has registered a growth of 0.9 %. Domestic sales went down by 4.31% compared to May last year while exports have registered downward trend of 8.46%. The company targets at least 8%-10%  growth this year. Yamaha India did not report sales figures in May 2012 and it is assumed that they have been flat or have gone down. Suzuki Motorcycle has reported a good 21.59% growth compared to May 2011 and the company aims to sell 5 lakh two wheelers this financial year. Mahindra sales have gone down by 17.08% while Royal Enfield has reported 42% growth.
