Hero MotoCorp HX250

The world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp holds a market share of about 46% in the two-wheeler category in India. The company now intends to also focus on the segment above 150cc.

Hero will face stiff competition from leading manufacturers like Bajaj, Honda, Yamaha and TVS. All of whom in recent years have given the Indian customer various iterations of their existing line up and also introduced new models with higher capacity engines.

Markus Braunsperger, Chief Technology Officer, Hero MotoCorp, has been quoted saying, “The philosophy is to remain a highly successful company. First, we will strengthen the categories we operate in, which mainly comprises the 100cc to 125cc class. Second, we will look at gaining market share in the 150cc and above premium motorcycle category. Lastly, we plan to look at the category with engine displacement above 250cc, which will give us an opportunity not just in India but also in global markets.”

Hero MotoCorp Xtreme 200

In the last few years, their products like the CBZ Xtreme, the Impulse and the Karizma ZMR had limited success. This is considering options available to the customers from Honda, Bajaj, Yamaha and TVS. However, Hero recently unveiled the Xtreme 200 that is slated for launch next year. The bike will feature front and rear disc brakes with ABS. Pricing is expected to be around Rs. 1 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

We are hoping with this Hero could revive itself in the premium space.
