Hero MotoCorp starts 1st Manufacturing Plant in Colombia

Hero MotoCorp, world's largest two wheeler manufacturer has inaugurated their new manufacturing plant at Villa Rica, in Columbia which is going operational on Tuesday. This is the first global manufacturing facility outside India to challenge Bajaj Auto’s dominance in the South American nation.

The plant was inaugurated by Colombian President, Juan Manuel Santos and Chairman, MD and CEO of Hero MotoCorp, Pawan Munjal in the presence of Government officials of the country and Hero officials.



With the inauguration of the plant in Colombia, Hero MotoCorp became the first Indian two-wheeler manufacturer to set up a global manufacturing plant in Latin America. This new Colombian plant will act as an export hub for Central and South American markets and it will provide employment to 2,200 people.

The Colombian plant spreads to over  17 acres of land at the Parque Sur free trade zone at Villa Rica in the State of Cauca. The plant has been built at a project cost of 70 million USD out of which 38 million USD has been utilized in capital expenditure and the rest of the amount will be used as working capital over the next few years. The initial annual production capacity of the plant is 80,000 units, which will be further expanded to 150,000 units per annum in the next phase.

Initially, the plant will manufacture ten products from Hero MotoCorp portfolio, including Motorcycles and Scooters. The new scooter ‘Hero Dash’ was also unveiled at the plant as a part of its global launch.

Over the past year, the Indian company “Hero MotoCorp”  has expanded itself into new markets in Asia, Africa, South and Central America. The company is looking forward to spreading their business to the different global markets as well.
