Hero plans to bring carbon fibre bikes in India

Hero Cycles, the domestic bicycle manufacture, is mulling to launch a premium range of carbon fibre bikes in India. The bikes might be launched in the end of this year. The new upcoming carbon fibre bikes might be available with expected price tag of Rs. 40000 in India. Hero Cycles is a part of Hero Group that sells the likes of Hero Honda Splendor, Hero Honda Passion and Hero Electric bikes in India.

 


Mr. Pankaj Munjal, managing director of Hero Cycles, quoted as saying that carbon fibre bikes are basically used in Italy and in the A380 bike. And this upcoming lightweight bike will be the first-of-its-kind in India. This bike might be priced around Rs. 40000 in Indian market, he said.

He further added that right now, the bicycle market is growing with 11-12 per cent growth and 11 million cycles are produced per year. Hero company is producing up to 18500 cycles everyday that are available between price range of Rs. 2000 to Rs 15000. But demand is 21,000 bicycles everyday and company is trying to fill the gap.

Hero Cycles are going to organise a Hero Cycles India Cyclothon programme at Pune on February 27 this year, in which 5,500 participants are expected to participate.

Munjal family is India's biggest two-wheeler maker and its another firm Hero Honda which has been a joint venture between Honda and Hero till 2010. Now the Hero Group is also mulling to launch new bikes in India. The company has been reported to have only Hero tag to its popular bikes such as Hero Honda Splendor, Hero Honda Passion, Hero Honda CD Deluxe, Hero Honda Hunk and Hero Honda Karizma.
