Honda has teased the upcoming Activa Electric once again, and this time revealing a lot about the e-scooter’s battery pack. The teaser makes it clear that the e-scooter gets a removable battery setup, with the rider changing the battery at a swap station.
The battery is mounted on the Honda Activa Electric’s boot space and features a twin-battery pack setup. Changing the battery is as simple as removing a latch, taking the battery out, replacing it with a new one, and closing the latch.
The swappable battery setup is an interesting addition, which will help decrease range anxiety. That is if Honda is planning on setting up battery swap stations in India, like they have done in other parts of the world. The brand has already been testing out swap stations in Bangalore and with the launch of the Activa Electric, they could expand it to other cities.
That said, the main issue with the swappable battery setup that the Activa Electric has, is that it takes away from the available under-seat space. When looking at an EV, one of the main selling points in India is the extra under-seat space offered as the e-scooter doesn’t have a fuel tank.
This is something the Honda Activa Electric won’t be able to offer. Riders who want additional storage space will have to purchase a top box accessory, similar to the one that we have seen as an accessory on the Honda CUV e that was unveiled at EICMA.
In other news, the brand had dropped a teaser earlier giving us a good look at the Honda Activa Electric’s instrument console. The teaser also revealed that the scooter will likely be offered in two variants.
The Honda Activa Electric will be unveiled on November 27th, 2024 and we expect it to be priced at around 1 lakh to Rs 1.30 lakh ex-showroom.
