The leading Indian two wheeler brand, Hero MotoCorp Limited (HMCL), is silently launching its updated models one-by-one. After launching new Pleasure, HF-Deluxe, Glamour, HF-Deluxe ECO, Xtreme etc. now, the company has launched the much awaited 2014 model of Karizma R and Karizma ZMR. Both the bikes are now on sale across India, which are priced at Rs. 83,158 and Rs. 1,04,986 for R and ZMR models respectively (all prices, ex-showroom, Pune).
Like their previous models, both the bikes are based on the same platform using different front fairings. Hero Karizma R comes with a semi fairing with twin vertically arranged headlamp units and eye style turn indicators with integrated DRLs. The Fairing with a large wind screen is extended to the fuel tank, however, doesn't covers the engine. While, Hero Karizma ZMR gets a full body fairing in the similar manner, which also covers the engine of the bike.
2014 Karizma recieves lots of latest, sporty features including clip-on handlebars, split seat, split rear grab rails, wide tyres and uplifted rear cowl. Instrument consoles of the bikes remain similar to their previous models. The R version gets the same digital-analog dash board, while the ZMR continues its fully digital one. The company also continues some other important parts of the bike including inverted front forks, rear suspension system, wheels and disc brakes. The bikes already come with front and rear disc brakes, however we are also expecting a mono-shock at the rear.
Powering the 2014 Hero Karizma R and ZMR is the same 223cc, single-cylinder engine mated with a 5-speed gearbox. The newly tuned engine churns out 19.2bhp of maximum power along with a peak torque of 19.35Nm in Karizma R, while, using oil cooler and programmed fuel injection technology, the power figures of the Karizma ZMR stands at 20bhp and 19.7Nm. The increased power figures and better aerodynamics makes the new mahine capable for doing 0-60kmph mark in just 3.6 seconds.
Karizma R has its direct competetion with the Bajaj Pulsar 220, while the direct rival of Karizma ZMR is Yamaha YZF-R15 in the Indian market. However, competetion is increasing now and manufacturers are bringing new and more advance models in the respective price range like Bajaj Pulsar 200NS. So, let's see that how the legendary sport bike of India will perform in the market with its new avatar.
