The company cites the global supply chain crisis and semiconductor shortage as main reasons
[Update: The Hero Vida V1 electric scooter has been launched in India. For pricing, features and other details, take a look at the launch report.]
In March this year, Hero MotoCorp had announced the arrival of a new electric mobility brand Vida under which its electric scooters will be sold. While the company earlier revealed the scooter will be launched on the 1st of July this year, our wait has been extended as the scooter’s launch has been delayed.
Vikram Kasbekar, Executive Director at Hero MotoCorp said that it will unveil its first EV around the upcoming ‘festive period’. So it’s safe to say the scooter could arrive in the month of October or November. The supply chain issues and shortage of various components including semiconductors because of the ongoing geopolitical tension (Russia-Ukraine war) has been cited as the main reason for the delay.
Pawan Munjal, Managing Director at Hero MotoCorp previously gave us a glimpse of the upcoming scooter and here’s what we think it might get.
We expect Hero to price the scooter very aggressively and a sub Rs 1 lakh price tag could very well be on the cards. The scooter will compete against the likes of TVS iQube Electric, Ola S1, Bajaj Chetak among others.
Hero had earlier partnered with Taiwanese company Gogoro for battery swapping technology. The company also partnered with BPCL for a nationwide EV charging network. That should ensure a good infrastructure for the scooter by the time it arrives.
In a related development, Hero recently launched the Splendor Plus XTEC, which is more feature-loaded than its standard counterparts, specifically in terms of connected features. The biggest addition is a full-LCD instrument cluster that features Bluetooth connectivity. Read all about the new Splendor here.
