Hero MotoCorp entered the entry-level performance commuter segment a couple of months ago with the Xtreme 160R. The bike was meant to be launched in March 2020 but failed to make its debut thanks to the lockdown. But now, as the government relaxes the lockdown restrictions, two-wheeler manufacturers seem to be getting back on track. And one of the first steps from Hero MotoCorp is to start accepting test rides registrations on its website for the Xtreme 160R. This also means that the bike isn’t far away from its official launch in India.
The bike adopts a sporty design language, which is a welcome change. It also comes with a number of features including LED lights all around, a digital instrument console, side stand engine cutoff switch, and hazard lamps.
Powering the bike is a BS6-compliant 160cc fuel-injected, air-cooled motor that offers 15.2PS at 8500rpm and 14Nm at 6500rpm. The engine comes with an Auto Sail feature which is Hero's lingo for GTT (Glide Through Traffic). In layman's terms, it works as a torque assist system which bumps up engine torque when you want to amble around at low speeds. More information about the Xtreme 160R available here.
Expect the Hero Xtreme 160R to be priced around Rs 90,000 to 95,000 (ex-showroom). It’ll compete against bikes like the Bajaj Pulsar 150, TVS Apache RTR 160 2V, Suzuki Gixxer, Honda CB Hornet 160R, Yamaha FZ-FI V3.0 Pulsar NS160 and the Apache 160 4V.
