The sales of the 150cc commuter seem to be affected by that of its own sibling, the Xtreme 200R
- In the last three months, the sales of the Hero Xtreme Sports fell from 233 units to 161 units and then zero.
- It hasn’t been updated with ABS either.
- Hero already has a bigger 200cc commuter, the Xtreme 200R which costs only Rs 7550 more than the Xtreme Sports.
Launched back in 2015, the Hero Xtreme Sports didn’t exactly set sales charts on fire compared to other popular bikes in its segment like the Honda CB Unicorn 150 and the Bajaj Pulsar 150. Consequently, the 150cc commuter from Hero now seems to be nearing the end of its life cycle, as its sales tumbled from 233 units in December 2018 to 161 in January 2019. In fact, in February this year, not even one unit of the Xtreme Sports was sold.
The Hero Xtreme Sports is priced at Rs 82,350 for the front and rear disc brake variant. Also, Hero has not equipped the Xtreme Sports with ABS so far, which further reinforces the speculation that the bike will be discontinued. Even if Hero decides to add a single-channel ABS, the pricing would go up even further and would be dangerously close to the Xtreme 200R, which costs Rs 89,900 (all prices are ex-showroom Delhi). And since the Xtreme 200R is a relatively new bike, offers a bigger engine, better power and torque figures at a price similar to ABS-equipped naked 160cc motorcycles, it seems highly unlikely.
With the Xtreme Sports seemingly out of the picture, it looks like Hero has moved on from the 150cc space altogether and has shifted its focus towards the 200cc segment. The XPulse 200 range will be launched later this month, and the brand is also working on a new iteration of the Karizma. The brand also seems to have a good hold in the sub-150cc segment with its Splendor range dominating sales charts in India.
