On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Honda Motorcycles and Scooter India organized nationwide festivities to celebrate the spirit of womanhood. The day-long events were in full-swing at all the 8 Traffic Training Parks, which are located in Chandigarh, Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Yeola (Nashik), Hyderabad and (the)two in Delhi. More than 1200 female riders were felicitated on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Approximately 15,000 women riders have been imparted practical & theoretical riding training at these traffic-parks over the last 3-years thanks to ‘Dream Riding’ – a Honda exclusive women empowerment initiative.
Honda has been imparting road safety training at its 8 traffic parks across the country and recently Honda has signed an MoU with the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation for a Traffic Training Park. Furthermore, the company’s social empowerment initiative ‘Dream riding’ is a unique platform to help women to learn how to ride a two-wheeler in a single day. The training is carried out from the company’s trained female instructors in a 4 hour module.
Aspiring women riders, residents of Delhi, Jaipur & Chandigarh who are above 18 years of age just need to drop an email with their details on the following e-mail ids: for Delhi dreamriding@ttpdelhi.in, for Jaipur dreamriding@ttpjpr.in, for Chandigarh dreamriding@ctpchandigarh.in
Honda also organized a ‘Nationwide Safety Pledge Drive’ by installing Pledge Flexes in the premises of all its manufacturing plants, corporate offices, dealerships, secondary networks, authorized spare service centers and at the stockists. Training and seminars on road safety and engagement activities like a ‘Road Safety Quiz ’ and a “Safety Slogan competition” were also conducted for women riders.
Moreover, Honda is empowering women through its two Vocational Training-cum-Livelihood Centres at Gurgaon (CRPF Campus, Kadarpur) and Gujarat (Bahucharaji, Mandal taluka). Over 450 women have already developed their vocational skills which include Tailoring, Beautician, Soft toy making, Agarbatti & Candle making, etc. This has helped them realize their dreams and has enhanced their confidence. This 2 month course has a mix of both practical as well as theoretical training. Upon successful completion of the course, the women are awarded a certificate by the National Skills Development Council (NSDC). These centres are a 100% women friendly initiative with only female staff – right from the teachers to the administration staff. The company also provides the necessary infrastructure including books and training material.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Yadvinder S. Guleria, Senior Vice President-Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “On the International Women’s Day, we are celebrating the rising empowerment amongst woman of today. At Honda, we believe that achieving independence of mobility is crucial to securing the future. When you empower a woman, you empower a family.”
He further added, “Through Honda’s Dream Riding Initiatives and other long-term vocational training modules at our 8 traffic-training parks, our women safety-instructors have helped more than 15000 women realize their dreams of mobility and independent livelihood in last 2-3 years”.
