Production of the motorcycles will begin by the end of 2019

[Update: Husqvarna Vitpilen 250, Svartpilen 250 Launched In India]

  • The Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 was spotted recently.
  • A few modifications were seen on the bike to make it suitable for Indian conditions.
  • These bikes will be sold via KTM dealerships across the country.

The wait for Husqvarna’s Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 grows longer as Bajaj Auto’s Rakesh Sharma has said that we are likely to see these Swedish beauties post the BS6 emission deadline. In fact, there might be a small lull period from the Pune-based manufacturer between November 2019 and April 1, 2020, when we won’t see too many launches.

Sharma said, “We have a robust pipeline of launches for the next 18 months. Our problem is sequencing. These are Husqvarna, high-end KTMs, Dominars, Pulsar and other variants. One might see a lull between now and April, though there are a couple of introductions, and an accelerated product introduction after April 2020. We will start production of Husqvarnas by 2019-end, starting with exports. By the first quarter of next year, we will be launching certain models in India.”

Given that the production of the bikes will begin only at the end of 2019, it is safe to assume that these 401s will be BS6-compliant. Having seen the exhaust system on the test mules, which are quite different from the bikes sold abroad, the 401s will be exported as Euro 5-compliant motorcycles. A few more differences were also spotted between the bike that was roaming the streets of Pune and the one sold globally.

For the uninitiated, Husqvarna is a Swedish off-road specialist that was bought over by KTM a few years ago. The Swedes have been platform sharing with its Austrian owners as the 401 twins are based on the KTM 390 Duke. The bikes use the same split-trellis frame, 43mm USD fork, cast aluminium swingarm with monoshock, and the braking setup that is found on the 390 Duke. Even the engine is the same 373cc single-cylinder motor that pumps out 43.5PS and 37Nm. Expect a slight change in these numbers once the motor meets the Euro 5/BS6 emission norms.

Given that these are stylish premium alternatives to the 390 Duke, we can presume the Vitpilen 401 (the cafe racer one) will be priced at Rs 3.20 lakh while the Svartpilen 401 (urban scrambler) could bear a price tag of Rs 3.30 lakh (ex-showroom).
