The venerable Interceptor 650 gets an old-school cafe-racer treatment and some tasteful modern bits
The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has epitomised the ‘less is more’ formula with its minimalist, no-frills design, opening up the possibility of endless customisation. One such custom house from Bengaluru, Bulleteer Customs, has taken the 2019 Interceptor 650 to the skies with its MiG-21-fighter aircraft-inspired build, aptly called ‘Fearless 650 RR’.
The laid-back retro-roadster stance has been swapped with more aggressive ergonomics, thanks to the addition of low clip-on handlebars, rear-set footpegs, and a cafe-racer style headlight and pillion cowl. The bodywork is draped in multicolour stripes on the right that exude vibes from the ‘70s, coupled with a more tactical green colour on the left with rivet-like finishes on the cowl emulating an aircraft’s fuselage.
To live up to the legendary fighter aircraft’s prowess, this motorcycle gets an aftermarket exhaust system coupled with revised sprocketing to match the new wheels. Yes, the original 18-inch spoke units are swapped with 17-inch alloy wheels, likely from the Bajaj Dominar 400. Even the tubed Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp has been replaced with sportier, tubeless Apollo H1 units measuring 110-section up front and 150-section at the rear, with wheel stickers from Tyre Decor. The mod-house says the new setup has resulted in a much better grip around the corners, improved braking, and sprightlier acceleration too. The claimed top-speed stands at 180kmph, more than enough for Indian roads.
The powertrain, while draped in tasteful black, is likely to be stock. The 648cc air-cooled, parallel-twin motor with oil cooler pushes out 47.6PS and 52Nm. Overall, this is one of the most wholesome, unique builds based on the Interceptor that we’ve seen in a long time. The aviation-inspired design fuses with the right kind of mechanicals, and the result is a well-balanced custom motorcycle.
