On the occation, Managing Director, Polaris India Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Pankaj Dubey said, “This launch holds great importance for us. We launched the marquee bikes in the US early last year and were appreciated immensely for reviving history. The Chief line enthralled the bikers and created an aura for itself within few days of the launch. Reviving the legend with a new heart but its same soul, Polaris India has ended the long wait for Indian Motorcycle enthusiasts with this launch. We are now giving enthusiasts a chance to own a piece of history in a modern package.”

All the models come under the leisure motorcycle segment, which will compete with the cruisers of Harley-Davidson and Triumph Motorcycles in India. All the three variants of Indian Chief are powered by the Thunder Stroke 111 engine, which is a 1,811cc, 49-degree, air/oil cooled, V-twin with 2-valves per head using a maintenance free valve lifting system. Using electronic sequential port fuel injection with electronic throttle control (ETC), the low rpm torque engine churns out a peak torque of 139Nm at just 2,600rpm. The engine comes mated with a six speed gearbox for better control during cruising.

The bike boasts typical cruising features like a tear drop fuel tank with a low seat and high handle bar, which helps to get a comfortable upright seating position. Currently, the bike will be imported in India via CBU route, however the company might start local assembling soon, which will help it to maintain the price according to the Indian market.
