Indian Springfield Launched in India at Rs. 30.6 Lakh

Indian Motorcycle has launched its latest cruiser, the Springfield, in India with a price tag of Rs. 30.6 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It was launched in its native land, the US, in March 2016 and will be brought to India via the CBU route. Bookings for the motorcycle have commenced at all the six Indian Motorcycle dealerships across the country – Gurgaon, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. It can be booked in two colours – black and red – and the deliveries are expected to start soon.

The Indian Springfield is based on the Indian Chief platform and has been positioned between the Chief Vintage and the Chieftain. So the new bike gets all the standard features of the Chief Vintage, including Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Cruise Control, keyless start and quick-release windshield, along with additional features such as quick-release hard saddlebags and tyre-pressure monitoring. Due to the detachable features, the motorcycle can be easily converted from a bagger to a cruiser according to requirements.

Using a tourer-oriented steering geometry that gives it better handling on the open road, the 2016 Springfield with considerable additional touring capabilities delivers on the tradition of great Indian Motorcycles.” 

Like all other Indian Chief motorcycles, the Springfield is mechanically identical to its siblings and retains the same Thunder Stroke 111 engine. The 1,811cc, air-cooled, V-twin motor is fed by a closed loop fuel injection system to give a massive peak torque output of 161.6Nm at just 3,000rpm. The powertrain comes mated to a 6-speed transmission with a common wet multi-plate type clutch assembly. The steering geometry of the Indian Springfield is similar to the Chieftain, with 25-degree rake angle and a trail of 133mm, making it more nimble than its siblings. 

If we talk about the competition, its closest rival is the Harley Davidson Street Glide which comes at an almost similar price and also gets an infotainment system with USB port for iPod/iPhone, Boom! Box 6.5GT radio, 6.5-inch touchscreen display and 5.25-inch speakers.
