Indian two wheeler market is the World's largest two wheeler market, and even in the crucial economic condition in India, two wheeler sector is showing approximate overall increment of 10 percent in the August 2013 respective to the August 2012. Almost all the major two wheeler companies in India, recorded growth in their August month sales compared to the sales in corresponding month last year. However Bajaj Auto recorded a decline in their August sales. Let's check the August 2013 sales status of the leading two wheeler companies in the Indian auto market, in comparison to the sales figures recorded in the same month last year:-
Hero MotoCorp: Hero MotoCorp is the leading two wheeler manufacturer of the Indian two wheeler market, enjoying the bite of being number one from the decades. Hero MotoCorp recorded a growth of 4 percent at 4,59.996 units for August 2013, while the sales of the corresponding month of 2012 was 4,43,801 units.
This growth is a result of several initiatives taken by the company in recent time. Five year warranty program of the company supported by excellent communication campaigns and TVCs, helped the company to boost its sales. One more such initiative was taken by the company in July 2013, when it undertook 49.2 percent stakes of the Eric Buell Racing. And we believe that it will help Hero to increase its market share in the International (superbikes) market as well.
Honda Motorcycles & Scooter India (HMSI): In July 2013, HMSI undertook the position of India's second largest two-wheeler manufacturer from the home grown Bajaj Auto. HMSI sales recorded 38.77 percent growth at 3,08,932 units for August 2013. The company's total sales for the same month in last year was 2,22,613 units. The reasons behind the growth are introduction of excellent new vehicles and launching of existing vehicles with improvements.
This is the first time for HMSI in the Indian market, when the company has sold more units of motorbikes compared to scooters. The motorcycle range of the company alone registered 50.23 percent increment in sales at 1,56,629 units in August 2013, compared to 1,04,253 units sold in August 2013. While the scooter segment recorded 28.67 percent growth in the sales at 1,52,303 units, compared to 1,18,360 units in August 2012.
Bajaj Auto Ltd.: The home grown company recently fell down from the position of India's second largest two wheeler manufacturer to third. Bajaj Auto sales registered a decline of 8.46 percent at 2,78,583 units in the August 2013, compared to the sales during the same month in the previous year at 3,04,352 units. If we take a look at the sales of the company's commercial vehicle category, sales of August 2013 is 33,605 units. Compared to 40,554 units sales in the corresponding month last year, the company recorded a decline of 17 percent in this segment.
We can't go on a final decision about the reasons of this decrement in sales; however, 50 days strike at the company's Chakan plant and Increased focus on the export and other collaborated companies in India, could be one of the major reasons. The other reason which we think pushed Bajaj backward is the excellent new products launched by other players in the industry. Company's export figures of the month speaks out 10 percent increment at 1,44,160 units compared to 1,31,160 units in the corresponding month last year.
TVS Motors: TVS remains at the fourth position in the market with almost stable overall sales having an increment of 0.57% at 1,55,532 units compared to 1,54,647 units in the same month last year. In the two-wheeler segment, company recorded a decreased sales figure of 1.5 percent at 1,48,469 percent against 1,50, 740 units in the same month last year.
These figures include both domestic sales with decrement of 6.21 percent and export sales with increment of 53 percent. Three-wheeler unit of the company recorded a growth of 81 percent at 7,063 units in August 2013, compared to 3,907 units sold in the corresponding month last year.
Yamaha Motors: Yamaha recorded 67.4 percent overall growth at 60,996 units during August 2013, against 36,432 units in August 2012. The figures include 42,990 units of domestic sales with 57.5 percent increment and 18,006 units of export with a growth of 97 percent.
Mahindra Two Wheelers Ltd.: The company which was crawling in the market till now, recorded an impressive growth of 66 percent in sales at 17,719 units in August 2013. This is the effect of improved products and the new superstar of the company, Centuro.
Till the dates from its launching, company has booked more than 35,000 Centuro bikes. Indian Two wheeler market sales, Hero Motocorp Sales, HMSI sales, Bajaj Auto sales, TVS Motors, Yamaha sales, Mahindra Two Wheelers
