Indian Two Wheeler Market Sales: September 2012 vs 2013

Despite the economic slowdown, the Indian two wheeler industry has been showing a consistent growth. Like August 2013, the Indian two-wheeler market has experienced both year on year and month on month hike in sales in September as well.

Honda Motorcycle

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Ltd.: The fastest growing two-wheeler manufacturer in India recorded an overall YoY growth of 35.3% at 3,28,965 units sold in September 2013, compared to the 2,43,107 units sold in the corresponding month last year. MoM hike of the company is 6.48 percent against the sales of 3,08,932 units during August 2013. The company sold 1,65,736 units of scooter, while 1,63,229 units of motorcycles during the month of September, and it is the highest sales of motorbikes by the company in India. After separating from their long term partners Hero, the company achieved the position of second largest manufacturer in the market in very short span of time. And now, they are claiming to become the numero uno by 2016.

Hero MotoCorp

Hero MotoCorp: Thw world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer received an overall YoY sales hike of 16% at 4,68,670 units sold during September 2013, against the 4,04,787 units sales of the same month in the previous year. However, the MoM sales stood at 1.88% against the 4,59,996 units sold during previous month.

TVS Motors

TVS Motors: TVS motor is India's fourth leading motorcycle manufacturer. The company has registered 14.85% YoY sales growth, selling 1,89,609 units during September 2013. The company sold 1,65,092 units during September 2012. In the domestic market, Hero MotoCorp recorded a growth of 13%, the sales went to 168,598 units in September 2013 from 149,191 units sold in September 2012. The company sold 83,043 units of motorcycles and registered a growth of 30%, while the scoter segment grew at 8% with 43,201 units. Two wheeler exports registered a growth of 32% with sales growing from 15,901 units in September 2012 to 21,011 units in September 2013.

Yamaha India

Yamaha India: Yamaha's overall sales stood at 60,031 units in September 2013, while 42,235 units were sold in September 2012, thereby registering a 42% overall growth. The company sold 46,790 units in September 2013 as against 30,638 units sold in September last year in the domestic market, thereby registering a domestic sales growth of 53%. In the Export markets the company sold 13,241 units in September 2013 as compared to 11,597 units in the same month last year, achieving a growth of 14.2%.

Mahindra Two Wheelers

Mahindra Two Wheelers: Mahindra's September 2013 volumes stood at 20,890, a growth of 136%, while domestic volumes stood at 19,716 units, a growth of 143% over the previous year. The company has registered strong growth backed by burgeoning demand for the new, innovative Mahindra Centuro with over 50,000 bookings received till date, across the country. MTWL is rapidly enhancing production to meet this strong demand.

Bajaj Bike

Bajaj Auto: The home grown company after receiving a drop in the sales last month, recovered its market steadily. The company sold 3,23,879 units in September this year, which are 8,565 units more than the 3,15,314 units sales of the corresponding month last year. Thus, the company registered a YoY growth of 2.7%. Bajaj is coming up with new attractive and affordable products, and said to add more to its portfolio. These exciting innovations are definitely going to help the company regain its market position in the upcoming months.

Suzuki Motorcycle

Suzuki India: Suzuki is doing well with its value for money product range including the new motorcycle Hayate and scooter Swish. The company registered a 9% increase in their September 2013 sales figures as compared to September 2012. Suzuki Motorcycle sold 41,734 units in September 2013 as opposed to 38,271 units in September 2012. Suzuki Motorcycles has maintained a consistent growth over the last couple of years.
