Looks like a mini, eco-friendly Z400
Kawasaki has unveiled an electric prototype at Intermot 2022, a biennial trade show for motorcycle manufacturers. The brand had previously announced plans for over 10 different types of electric and hybrid electric vehicles in markets worldwide by 2025. And since we’re in the beginning of October 2022—only a few months short of 2023 – it means they’ll be here in two more years!
Anyway, back to the prototype:It’s unmistakably a Kawasaki, and its aggressive fascia, sculpted fuel tank, sharp body panels, exposed frame, split-seat design and abundance of green lines make it look like an electrified, miniaturised Kawasaki Z400.
While no details about the bike have been revealed, we expect a power output at par with a 125cc bike, which makes a lot of sense as an electric offering meant for newbie riders. Besides, we’re not certain if the Kawasaki EV will have a fixed or removable battery pack, as the batteries are placed in the bike’s underbelly, encased by what looks like an all-new frame. That said, it should also be accessible via the faux fuel tank lid. And speaking of hardware bits, we spotted a telescopic fork along with a link-type monoshock, and the wheels will likely be 17-inch units.
This bike could be a great start for Kawasaki entering the EV space. While it looks every bit production-ready, there could be some time before it actually makes its way to India. Meanwhile, you could check out the Revolt RV400, Tork Kratos and Oben Rorr.
