The test mules hint at a more off-road-oriented setup, with Dakar rally bike-like styling
- Both test mules get a Dakar bike-inspired fascia.
- The handlebar, instrument console and the front end are evidently taller than what the standard 390 Adventure features.
- Everything else including the side profile, suspension, brakes and wheels appear to be the same as the current model.
Just a few days ago, the 2022 KTM 390 Adventure made its global debut and now a rather hardcore variant of the bike has been spotted testing somewhere in India. A closer look at the couple of test mules indicates that KTM could be working on a rally variant of the 390 Adventure.
Right off the bat, the fascia is reminiscent of a Dakar rally bike. Topped by a tall transparent visor, the front end is quite higher than what we see on the standard model. Even the instrument cluster and the handlebar are mounted higher. The taller handlebar should offer better ergos while standing up, something that is much needed on the current bike.

Furthermore, the test mules are also running on block pattern tyres although shod to standard alloys. A closer look at the second bike and you’ll see a different exhaust. We think KTM could introduce it as an accessory in the future.
Everything else on the two bikes appears to be identical to the current model. This includes the frame, suspension, braking hardware and side panels too. Even the engine casing looks similar but it’d be nice if KTM tunes the motor for more low-end grunt. Currently, the 390 Adventure’s 373cc liquid-cooled motor makes 43.5PS and 37.Nm.
Going by the aforementioned bits, if this is the KTM 390 Adventure rally variant, expect it to cost a notable premium over the standard model. Not to mention, it’ll also attract more buyers looking to upgrade from the Hero XPulse 200 Rally Kit variant without venturing directly into the bigger bike market. It’ll be a while before KTM makes an official announcement since the bike has just been spotted.
