This e-trike does not require a license to ride
Joy e-bike has unveiled a leaning electric trike concept at the Pune Alternate Fuel Conclave (AFC). Before putting it into production, the Gujarat-based EV startup will be gauging the customer response for the e-trike.
The electric trike looks fascinating to say the least, with minimalistic styling and sporting two wheels up front. While the rear of the concept gets a monoshock, the front gets a horizontally positioned shock absorber with a linkage mechanism connecting the front two wheels. The braking duties are handled by discs on both front wheels.
The specs of the e-trike haven’t been revealed yet, however, Joy e-bike has disclosed that riding this e-trike will not require a license, which means that the top speed will be less than 25kmph, making it a low-speed vehicle. Apart from that, it is powered by a hub motor, paired to a battery pack placed under the seat.

In terms of features, the electric Trike comes packed with full-LED lighting, a digital instrument cluster, two ride modes with dedicated switchgear and it appears to have a reverse function. It also features an apron-mounted lever that can lock or unlock the tilt mechanism of the e-trike, which will be useful while parking.
Considering that the e-trike is a low speed vehicle, its price might not match up to what it will have on offer, as the suspension and steering of trikes are complex and expensive to manufacture. Apart from that, e-trikes are not very practical products, despite being technologically fascinating. Hero Electric, too, had showcased an e-Trike At Auto Expo 2020 called the AE-3.
