Kannada film director Preetham Gubbi has recently shot a scene for his upcoming movie “Naanu Mattu Varalakshmi” that features a real motocross race. The champions of motocross races- from India, Sri Lanka and Dubai were a part of the scene that includes KP Aravind (National Motocross Champion), MS Prince (two-time Privateer Dirt Track Champion), Gaurav Khatri (2013 Privateer Supercross champion), Ishan Dasanayke (Sri Lankan supercross champion), Alex Mulpass and Mitchel Mulpass (Both, Dubai Motocross Champion). A real race track has been constructed for the shot near Nagavara in Bangalore.
The lead actor of the film, Prithvi is making his debut in this kannada film and plays the role of a motocross racer. National Motocross Champion, C Vijay Kumar is helping the director and his team to shoot this scene with a motocross race in the backdrop.
Speaking to Bangalore Mirror, Preetham said, "It took seven days to build the track. The shooting took three days. What I had imagined about motocross is only 10 per cent of what it really is. National champion C Vijay Kumar helped us a lot in building the track. It would have been impossible without him. This race sequence in the film will be around five minutes long."
Preetham stated that the challenge was of a different kind. "Real champion motocross riders participated in the shooting. Once they start they have no intention of stopping. They would just go on and on.There was no way they would listen to me saying `cut' after I shot. Even after the shot, they would go on racing. The adrenaline rush cannot be stopped. Stunt master Ravi Verma got into the mood too." That’s not the end of the racetrack shot, in fact, a larger race track is also being built near Devanahalli in Bangalore for the climax scene.
"The climax will have a bigger race and it will be a flood-lit race track. It will be bigger than this one. We are searching for the right place. There are so many things I did not know about motocross. Unlike dirt tracks, motocross racing requires a track that has so many things in it like table tops, jumps and double jumps. The climax will also feature the rest of the cast in the film including Prakash Raj."
Preetham Gubbi says, "KP Aravind, the national champ is with TVS Racing. So he managed to help us get the company help us. Then Motul India also helped. Each of the professional bikes cost upward of Rs 12 lakh. It would have been impossible for us to fund it as part of the budget”. The production house spent around Rs. 50 lac for this five-minute shot. It may cost a lot to the production house but professional riders came with their own motocross bikes and a two-wheeler major stepped in as a sponsor to help them along the way.
