The much-awaited BS6-compliant Kawasaki Z650 has started reaching select dealerships -- a little over two months since it was launched in India at Rs 5,94,000 ex-showroom. That’s a premium of Rs 25,000 over the BS4 model. The extra dough gets you Kawasaki naked’s Sugomi styling philosophy, a LED headlight, and a 4.3-inch colour-TFT screen. Interested customers can book the new Z650 at their nearest Kawasaki dealership or drop booking enquiries on Kawasaki's website.
The bike is powered by a BS6-compliant 649cc parallel-twin engine that generates 68PS of peak power (same as before). That said, the Z650’s torque output has dipped from 65.7Nm at 6500rpm to 64Nm at 6700rpm. It retains the same 6-speed transmission as before but misses out on a slipper clutch.
Aside from this, the Z540 also gets grippier Sportmax Roadsport 2 tyres instead of the old Sportmax D214s. The entire package weighs just 1kg more than before. Its hardware includes a steel trellis frame with an upside fork and a monoshock, a pair of twin 300 petal discs up front, and a single 200mm petal disc at the rear.
At this price point, the BS6 Kawasaki Z650 competes against the next-generation Benelli TNT 600 and the CFMoto 650NK.
