KTM might make a smashing entry in the ADV segment by riding in two new bikes later this year
UPDATE: EICMA 2019: KTM 390 Adventure Unveiled, India Launch In December
Enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for KTM to launch the 390 ADV in India. We have spotted the motorcycle prowling on Indian roads time and again, and as per the rumours KTM might (finally!) launch the 390 Adventure by the end of this year. The Austrian brand will be treating us by unveiling the motorcycle at the upcoming 2019 EICMA motorcycle show in Italy. That’s not all, though, as we got our first look of the new KTM 250 ADV some weeks back as well. And some dealers have informed us that KTM might launch both the motorcycles at the same time. Is it a right move? Here’s our analysis.

The adventure segment in India hasn’t expanded as it has in the western part of the world. So even though the 390 Adventure is super hyped up, it will be quite difficult for Team Orange’s ADV to set the sales chart on fire. The Hero XPulse might be the only ADV motorcycle that’s doing decent numbers. According to the previous sales report the Hero XPulse 200 (both variants) tallied a total of 3,734 units. Again, KTM might never replicate these numbers in India due to the fact that at around Rs 3 lakh (ex-showroom), the 390 Adventure will be an expensive option for people who are looking to buy an adventure motorcycle.
What KTM might do is launch the 390 Adventure first and let it grab as much attention as possible. And when things start to taper off, then the bike maker could bring in the affordable variant, the 250 ADV. KTM has applied the same strategy with the 125 Duke. The baby Duke was available in the international markets for a long time, but the Austrian bike maker decided to launch it when sales of the 200 Duke were starting to decline. And this decision of KTM is starting to pay off as the entry-level Duke has already crossed the 22,000 sales mark since its launch!
Moreover, there are rumours that KTM might unveil the 390 Adventure at the upcoming India Bike Week (IBW). So will KTM give us our first look at the 250 ADV as well? Well, we guess we have to wait for a few weeks to get our answers.
