Quick Highlights:

  • KTM 390 SMC R has been spied testing in India for the first time

  • Shares its engine with the 390 Duke

  • Gets 17-inch spoke wheels and road-biased tyres

The KTM 390 SMC R has been spotted in India and we get to see some new details about the motorcycle. Let’s have a deep dive into the spy shots of the 390cc supermoto from the Austrian manufacturer.

What do the spy shots reveal?

The spy shots of the KTM 390 SMC R reveal some exciting details of the upcoming motorcycle. It gets 17-inch spoke wheels on the same frame as the KTM 390 Enduro R. This will allow the 390 SMC R to be better on tarmac as compared to off-roads. It shares the same chassis, the small TFT screen, adjustable fork and monoshock as the Enduro R.

It gets the same engine as the  3rd gen 390 Duke which is a 399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that makes 46PS and 39Nm, and is paired to a 6-speed gearbox with bi-directional quickshifter.

What do we expect?

The KTM 390 SMC R is expected to have some advantages when compared to the KTM 390 Adventure S and the 390 Enduro R. For instance, it will be the better road-going sibling out of the three thanks to its road-biased tyres and the 17-inch wheels.

The motorcycle will be manufactured in Bajaj’s plant in Chakan for the world but we think that it might not launch in India anytime soon. The reason for this being the niche supermoto category. Not many people are aware of this category and how it is meant to be ridden. The supermoto segment is not known well enough in India.

However, KTM might just be the first manufacturer to introduce the segment to the masses if they ever launch it in India. Supermoto does make the most amount of sense as it gets long travel suspension for the bad Indian roads and road-biased tyres for the enthusiasts to crave their want for the twisties.

Launch Date, Price and Rivals

If KTM plans to launch the 390 SMC R in India, (we wish they do) It will most likely be in the second half of 2025 after they receive enough demand from the customers for the supermoto. It could be priced around Rs 3.2 lakh to Rs 3.3 lakh (ex-showroom) and placed just above the 390 Duke. The KTM 390 SMC R will have no natural rivals in India.
