In a bid to make adventure touring alluring to those with a stricter budget, KTM launched the 250 Adventure in India. Priced at Rs 2,48,256, the KTM 250 Adventure is the most affordable adventure bike from KTM in India. If it isn’t up to your tastes, then worry not, as you have a ton of bikes to choose from around the same budget. Here are our top 5 picks:
TVS Apache RR 310 - Price: Rs 2,45,000
The TVS Apache RR 310 is the most feature-packed fully faired bike in its segment. The BS6-compliant version comes with a full-colour TFT screen with smartphone connectivity. That’s not all, it also features four riding modes with two levels of power and torque output. Under the Sport and Track modes, it generates 34PS and 27.3Nm whereas the output figures are mellowed down to 25.8PS and 25Nm in Urban and Rain modes.
The motorcycle also comes with a gorgeous design complete with a bi-LED projector headlamps and sporty yet comfortable ergonomics. It even packs premium underpinnings in the form of an inverted cartridge front fork, rear monoshock, 300mm front petal disc with radial caliper, 240mm rear petal disc with dual-channel ABS and Michelin Road5 tyres on both ends. It now gets an all-LED lighting system, 4-step adjustable brake and clutch levers, ride-by-wire throttle and an assist and slipper clutch.
Despite adhering to stricter emission norms, the output figures are still unchanged. The 313cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine still puts out 34PS at 9,500rpm and 28Nm at 7,500rpm as before. If you’re craving the quintessential premium BMW experience, then the G 310 R is hard to ignore as it is the most affordable bike from the German marque.
KTM RC 390 - Price: Rs 2,53,184
Brute power, aggressive ergonomics, performance-oriented genes are all that the KTM RC 390 stands for. Armed with an explosive 373.3cc BS6-compliant engine, the KTM RC 390 pushes out a very healthy 43.5PS of power and 36Nm of torque. These output figures coupled with the competitive price tag of Rs 2,53,184 means that the KTM RC 390 offers one of the best performance-to-price ratios in its segment.
That said, the aggressive riding posture, the 820mm tall seat, not-so-comfortable pillion seat may not make it the most practical motorcycle for your everyday commutes. But if you’re willing to sacrifice that for the pursuit of performance, look nowhere else.
KTM 390 Duke - Price: Rs 2,57,906
The KTM 390 Duke is essentially a more practical version of the RC 390. To complement this, the 390 Duke also has a couple of tricks up its sleeves. It comes with a standard bi-directional quickshifter in the BS6-compliant edition, which should make riding in stop-and-go traffic a lot easier.
In addition, the KTM 390 Duke also comes with a full TFT instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity. Other notable features include an all-LED lighting system and switchable dual-channel ABS. All in all, the KTM 390 Duke is perfect for those who want a performance-packed streetfighter that is at ease on a dense street as it is at a twisty race track.
Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 - Price: Rs 2,66,755
Sure, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is a little more expensive than the KTM 250 Adventure, at Rs 2,66,755. However, if you consider its displacement and the fact that it’s a twin-cylinder motorcycle, the Interceptor 650 is hands down the best value-for-money premium bike out there by far. With a generous 47.6PS and 52Nm on tap, the parallel-twin engine is silky smooth and can let you cruise at triple digit speeds effortlessly, all day long.
There are minor issues with the motorcycle such as the awkward footpeg position, not-so-touring-friendly stock seat, and weak headlamp. But the overall riding experience is satisfying enough to overlook all these niggles. That said, shorter riders might find the 202kg heft a little too cumbersome, especially in tight spaces. If you wish to have a properly premium big bike experience under a budget, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is the perfect option to go for.
