Leading manufacturers from the automotive world including Hero MotoCorp are facing problems in Haryana. Due to violent protests by the Jat community in the area, transportation has been immensely affected. Blocking highways and railway tracks has resulted in companies falling short of components that are transported to the facilities from other places. Hero’s three facilities in Gurgaon, Neemrana and Haridwar are affected by the clashes. These clashes are an outcome of protests by the Jat community who are demanding a quota in jobs and educational institutions under OBC category for themselves.
Mentioning the problems faced by the company during the violence, a spokesperson from Hero MotoCorp, said, " Dispatches from all our plants - at Gurgaon and Dharuhera (Haryana), Neemrana (Rajasthan) and Haridwar (Uttarakhand) - have been affected due to the ongoing blockade of the national highways and other roads." He added that the production was also impacted at these plants on February 22.
On the other hand, close to 4,000 workers of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India’s (HMSI) Tapukara facility (Rajasthan) that were on strike from February 16, are shifting their protest to Jaipur from today due to disturbances created in the area. The workers are demanding to form a union. Ashok Yadav, president, HMSI employees' union, said, "The workers at Tapukara wanted to form a union; an application for which was pending before the management. Four workers were sacked. Matters escalated when the supervisor slapped a contract worker asking for leave on February 16."
Informing more about the same, Kuldeep Janghu, general secretary, Maruti Udyog Kamgar Union, said, "Over 100 protesting workers at HMSI have been arrested by the police. We want them to be released. Because of the unrest around reservations in Haryana, we are moving the protest to Jaipur from February 23." There is a large number of manufacturing facilities near Rohtak and Manesar. Other than these two-wheeler companies, Maruti Suzuki also faced problems at its Manesar plant.
