The renowned Italian suspension manufacturer, Marzocchi has officially announced to shut down its operations anytime from now. The American-based parent company, Tenneco has declared the elimination of the firm due to the high capital investment in the R&D department that was required to compete with its rivals like WP and Ohlins. Marzocchi was acquired by Tenneco back in 2008 and its shut-down process was into thought just three years since that. Once Marzocchi comes to an end, approximately $7 million (Rs. 46 crore) will be saved per year, but with an initial cost of $27 million (Rs. 179 crores) that is required to carry out the entire closing process.

The end of Marzocchi will leave 138 people jobless too. These include 127 people in the Marzocchi factory in Bologna, Italy and 11 involved in ensuring operations in North America and Taiwan. Marzocchi has been a favourite suspension brand and a preferred choice of numerous bike manufacturers since years. Its top clients included renowned brands like Aprilia, Benelli, BMW, Ducati, Moto Guzzi, MV Agusta, TM Racing and many more. The closing announcement must have surely done a damage to them as they have to look for a new suspension vendor now in order to ensure their smooth production. Looking for a new suspension manufacturer needs a healthy capital investment for R&D and testing purposes along with spending a lot of time.

Marzocchi has remained one of the finest suspension makers in the world till now and its closing news is indeed heartbreaking for the whole motorcycle community. Lets see if some miracle happens and the firm gets acquired by one of its clients.
