- The battery capacity seems to have gone down a bit.
- Expect Bajaj to launch the updated iteration mid this year.
Homologation document of an updated Bajaj Chetak electric scooter has surfaced online. The upcoming iteration is slightly more powerful than before, but has a smaller battery.
According to the document, the updated electric motor's peak power is rated 4.2kW at 60kmph and can churn out 4kW for half an hour at the said speed. In comparison, the current-gen model makes a maximum of 4.08kW. Interestingly, the battery capacity has gone down from 3.0kWh to 2.884kWh.
In amp hours, the battery capacity has gone down from 60.3Ah to 57.24Ah. This could theoretically impact the range, but we'll have to wait for the full official specifications for a clearer picture. For perspective, the current-gen Chetak's claimed range is 90km under 'Eco' mode.

Both 'Urbane' and 'Premium' variants will likely have the updated battery and powertrain. Expect Bajaj to launch the new iteration in mid-2022. Currently, the Chetak retails at Rs 1,42,390 (ex-showroom Pune, including FAME II subsidy). With the new dedicated manufacturing plant coming up, we wouldn't be surprised if the localisation increased, and therefore, prices came down. This could go a long way in making the e-scooter a more reasonably priced rival to the TVS iQube Electric, Ola S1, and the Ather 450 Plus.
The Bajaj Chetak is currently available in select cities in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, and Kerala. Expect more cities to be added to the list going forward.
