Here’s a list of the top five most value for money bikes in the 1 lakh - Rs 2 lakh bracket, as defined by the amount of power they deliver vs their price tags!
A couple of days ago, we put up a small piece on the best PS per rupee bikes under Rs 1 lakh. Essentially, the story revolves around the idea of how much power one can procure for the least amount of money. It’s pretty straightforward: we simply divide the ex-showroom price of the bike with its power and classify them accordingly. Today, we step it up a notch and have a look at bikes within the 1 lakh - Rs 2 lakh price bracket.
5. Jawa Forty Two - (Rs 5,740/PS)
The Jawa Forty Two was a total surprise package. One wouldn’t expect a classic roadster to offer a better rupee to PS ratio compared to some of its sporty rivals, but here it is. With 27.37PS on tap and a price tag of Rs 1.55 lakh, the bike offers better value than even the Yamaha FZ-25 and the Suzuki Gixxer 250. Yes, the Jawa Forty Two isn’t feature-rich like most modern day bikes, but its neo-retro appeal is a total magnet for classic bike enthusiasts. Apart from this, the bike gets a sweet-looking liquid-cooled engine, comfy ergos and the option of single or dual-channel ABS for added safety.
4. Bajaj Pulsar RS200 - (Rs 5,699/PS)
Over the years, Bajaj has earned itself a reputation for offering the most value for money bikes. And the fully-faired Pulsar RS200 is no different. While it packs the same engine as the Pulsar NS200, it’s been tweaked to produce 1PS more than its naked counterpart. This could be to compensate for the added weight of the fairing. That said, at a price tag of Rs 1.39 lakh and with 24.5 PS of power on offer, the bike provides the fourth best rupee per PS quotient in this list. Aside from power, the RS200 also offers features like a perimeter frame, twin projector headlamps, LED tail light, clip-on handlebars and a semi-digital instrument console.
3. TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Carb ABS R 2.0 - (Rs 5,431/PS)
The Apache RTR 200 4V already comes with a tonne of features, which makes it a tempting proposition. What has also worked in its favour is its VFM factor. With 20.5PS available at your disposal and an affordable price tag of Rs 1.11 lakh, the Apache RTR 200 4V makes a compelling case for itself. And that’s not it: the Apache RTR 200 4V features LED DRLs, sharp styling, a KYB tuned suspension setup and a slipper clutch. TVS also offers optional Pirelli tyres just in case you’re a cornering junkie and the standard tyres aren't cutting it for you.
2. Bajaj Pulsar NS200 ABS (Rs 4,789/PS)
Bajaj seems to be dominating the PS-per-rupee fight in this price bracket with yet another offering, the Pulsar NS200. You have 23.5 ponies to play with for a price tag of just Rs 1.12 lakh. That puts it up as the second best PS/rupee bike in this fight for glory.
2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 - (Rs 4,353/PS)
Finally, it all boils down to the most powerful bike in this price bracket, the 2019 Dominar 400. With its reworked 373.3c, single-cylinder, DOHC liquid-cooled engine, it now churns out an impressive 40PS at 8,650rpm. And that’s not all, the Dominar 400 comes equipped with LED lights, a split digital instrument console, premium upside-down forks, a radially mounted front caliper paired with a 320mm disc, dual-channel ABS, dual-tone alloy wheels and a double barrel exhaust. Dial in the fact that all this comes at a price tag of just Rs 1.74 lakh and you have one heck of a deal.
