Yamaha Motor India today launched its new 125cc commuter- Saluto with a price tag of Rs. 52,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new bike will be Yamaha’s third offering in the segment after SS 125 and YBR 125. There is only one variant available, having alloy wheels and dual drum brakes, with two colour options- Brave Black and Victory Red.
The new Yamaha Saluto seems inspired by the design lines of the existing YBR 110, however, the new offering looks much sportier. It also shares many parts like wheels, front telescopic forks, spring loaded hydraulic rear dampers, handlebar and more with its siblings. Bolted on a diamond type frame, it has overall dimensions (length x width x height) of 2,035mm x 700mm x 1,080mm along with a wheelbase of 1,265mm. Ground clearance of the bike sits at 180mm and it weighs 112 kg, but the fuel tank capacity is just 7.6-litre.
The new Yamaha Saluto is powered by a new 125cc, air-cooled engine, which is based on the Blue Core technology, like the other new models of the company. The new motor claims to deliver around 8.2bhp of maximum power at 7,000rpm and a peak torque upto 10.1Nm at just 4,500rpm. Power delivery of the bike is not comparable to a 125cc machine, however, the torque delivery is fine to carry sufficient load. The new Blue Core technology is helping the motorcycle to return a healthy mileage of upto 78kmpl, which is very impressive in the respective segment.
Yamaha might also introduce a front disc brake option with the new Saluto soon, which will cost around Rs. 3,000 extra. The bike is going to compete with the other 125cc offerings in the market like Hero Glamour, Bajaj Discover 125M, TVS Phoenix, Suzuki Slingshot Plus and the segment leader- Honda Shine.
